Covid-19 Guidance from the 19th July 2021 – (see below for current Covid guidance)

In line with the Governments updates regarding the lifting of Covid restrictions from the 19th July 2021 we have outlined below the measures we are taking to continue to operate in a safe and responsible manner:

Please note seating allocation and the reserving of specific seats at booking will no longer be in place, you will be able to reserve a space on a sailing however seats will be available on a first come first served basis at boarding.

  • We will still be recommending that passengers and staff wear face masks whilst moving around the inside of the vessel
  • Our rigorous cleaning program between each sailing will remain in place
  • Hand sanitizer will remain available, and we encourage our passengers to use it, especially at boarding
  • The one way system on the stairs will be kept, and we ask that the stairways are kept clear
  • The option to pay by card at boarding will stay in place, however there is no card signal out on the river so please have cash for the bar
  • The seats will no longer be set out as “bays”
  • Passengers are free to move around the vessel however we are encouraging minimal movement
  • Our bar will resume pre-Covid operations, there will be no table service by the crew, passengers can go to the bar to order refreshments and snacks, however we kindly ask that one person from each party comes to the bar area, and passengers move away from the bar once they have been served to allow others to be served.
  • Private charter bookings will revert to full capacity, at the organisers discretion and Menu A will be available, please be advised Menu A is served as a buffet.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you on board and thank you in advance for working with us to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for everyone joining our sailings. We kindly request that if you, or any of your party are at all unwell please stay at home and join us when you are better. Please be advised measures may be subject to change.

Covid Guidance before the 19th July 2021

Below we have outlined the steps we have implemented to ensure we are “Covid compliant”. As government guidelines are ever changing we will update our measures accordingly, if required. Please scroll down for Covid guidance for private hire.

Public Sailings

On top of our strict cleaning policy, the boat will receive a deep clean after each trip and before the first trip of the day. We ask that all guests use the provided hand sanitiser before boarding, including those wearing gloves. Hand sanitiser will be available throughout all trips, free of charge.

To comply with social distancing, we have divided the Southern Comfort into numbered Bays; marked out with safety tape and reduced our overall capacity. It is highly recommended that you book in advance by calling the office 01692 630262. When booking you can select (subject to availability) or will be allocated a Bay. Customers who arrive on the day for a trip will be assigned a Bay upon boarding, subject to availability.

For Bay numbers, Bay location and capacity please refer to the key and diagram of the boat at the bottom of this page .

When booking a trip, you will be asked for one form of contact i.e. phone and email address this is to help with track and trace. Guests who arrive on the day for a trip will be asked for the same information prior to boarding.

Guests to wear face masks when seated indoors if they are able to do so, unless they are having a drink or snack. Staff will always be wearing face masks, apart from the skipper who will be isolated whilst driving and giving commentary, but will wear a mask at all other times.

For your safety and the safety of others, once boarded please head directly to your Bay. During the trip we ask that you remain seated in your Bays except to use the toilets. You will notice that stairways to and from the upper deck are now one way and we ask that you use the stairs as marked out.

We have introduced contactless payment, however there are a few poor-spots on the riverways, if for any reason we have been unable to collect payment a member of staff will complete your transaction once a signal has returned. Please use this service as much as possible, although we will still accept cash if necessary.

We will now be operating table service to avoid crowding at the bar, once the trip is underway a member of staff will come round to offer refreshments.

Once the trip has finished and the boat has moored up please remain seated and the skipper will call out a Bay at a time to disembark. Once you have left the Southern Comfort, we ask you kindly to move away and not to congregate around the exit.

Friendly note …

If you, or any of your household or “bubble” are at all unwell please stay at home and join us when you are better. In addition, we want to do everything we can to make your trip enjoyable and comfortable, however we are not able to control the weather – yet! So, we advise you to check the local weather (if seated outside) before you come and bring a raincoat / umbrella if there is a chance of rain.

Private Hire

On top of our strict cleaning policy, the boat will receive a deep clean before and after your booking. We ask that all guests use the provided hand sanitiser before boarding, including those wearing gloves. Hand sanitiser will be available throughout your trip free of charge.

When booking a trip, you will be asked for contact information i.e. phone and email address, this is part of the booking process but also to help with track and trace.

Staff will always be wearing face masks, apart from the skipper who will be isolated whilst driving, but will wear a mask at all other times.

The boats usual capacity is 100 persons however for social distancing we have limited the capacity of the private bookings please call the office to discuss numbers and requirements 01692630262

Regarding food, Menu A is no longer available and food will not be served as a buffet. Food will be plated by the catering team in the front upper deck of the boat (Bays 10 and 11 on the diagram below) and then each bubble / household can come up when called to collect their plated food and cutlery. Then leave the area to allow the next group up. There will be no condiments available.

This method also applies to the bar, only one bubble / household are permitted at the bar at a time, once you have been served please move away from the bar to allow others access, there must be no congregating at the bar.

Regarding the entertainment options the Mississippi Disco and Jazz band are no longer available, you are most welcome to provide your own entertainment providing it adheres to the governments Covid guidance. Alternatively you can bring your own playlist and plug into the boats sound system at no cost.

Although you are permitted to move around the boat it is the guest’s responsibility to ensure social distancing is maintained at all times and the whole of the boat must be utilised (upper and lower decks) to do this. Please keep the stairs themselves and the entrances / exits to the stairs free and observe the one-way system we have in place.

For the safety of our guests and crew if social distancing is not observed the Skipper will terminate the trip, the boat will return to the mooring and no refund will be given. If you, or any of your household or “bubble” are at all unwell please stay at home

Thank you for taking the time to read our guide if you have any questions
please call the office on 01692 630262.
